If you use Twitter or particularly if you are Nigerian, by this time you must have heard about the ongoing 10k Laptop Project.
This project was started singlehanded by Doctor Ayilola of twitter with the handle @silverpenydr, where he said he had a dream to empower 10k Nigerian Youth with a laptop.
“10k?” So was asked by several Nigerians who seriously doubted he can successfully achieve that dream, a lot has been said concerning the Laptop Project by Nigerians particularly on twitter.
However, the Doctor later organized a team to help him on the processing, interview and delivery of the laptop to the beneficiaries.
A lot has been said, many has criticized and many has encouraged him, however, before I continue with my story, here are the facts gathered from one of his team members (Mobola_ade A.K.A. Lady B) and the Doctor’s Page on Twitter.
- The Doctor is a well-known Doctor on twitter based in the United Kingdom.
- The Doctor has helped lives of several Nigerians particularly by helping to solve personal problems professionally and financially majorly on Twitter.
- As seen from the Doctor’s Page “All I wanted was to Help Nigerian Youth”; where the Doctor claimed he only wanted to help the lives of Nigeria that need laptop to start something for their selves.
- The Doctor is not doing this alone; he has a team of 4
- The Doctor is someone with good reputation with no history of fraud or crime connected to his name.
Now back to our story, the Doctor started the project by writing to public figures, people who are actually doing well for their selves, particularly to not to bother anyone or make it look like they are being force to contribute to the project he initiated.
He has written to several celebrities that didn’t respond and after few hours of writing to Don Jazzy the Founder of a Major Music Record Label in Nigeria (MAVIN), to contribute to the 10k Laptop Project, he responded where and said…
“Bro I hail o. Your initiative is commendable. But sir 10000 laptops is not beans. At this time I can only afford to support with 20 million Naira and a repost. Hopefully some other well meaning Nigerians can help achieve the goal.”
Later that day, Don Jazzy sent 20 Million to Dr Ayilola and that is how it began.
Another man with the name Nduka Omeife on twitter donated the sum of 1 million naira.
On the following Monday morning which was on 3rd of November 2025, Dr Ayilola posted the link to register for the Laptop, the link was going till it stopped taking response, the issue was fixed and the link was posted again.
A lot of scam surfaced on different blogs and websites, where some fraudulent people are trying to scam people, but that has been addressed by the Doctor to not respond to any link or message from anyone except from members of his team which include Mobola_ade, Horiyourme and boye4christ2006.
Right now, we have seen more than 10 people who have posted about receiving their laptop after being interviewed as another batch is on way to be distributed by the chosen distributors.
